Fluoroplastic insulated wires and cables are a type of special cables using fluoroplastics (e.g., PTFE, FEP, PFA, ETFE) as insulation or sheath materials. They boast outstanding high-temperature resistance, chemical corrosion resistance, weather resistance and electrical insulation performance, making them ideal for demanding scenarios like aerospace, chemical engineering, metallurgy, electronics and other industries with strict cable performance requirements.
Common Fluoroplastic Materials and Their Characteristics
Different materials in the fluoroplastic family have distinct performance advantages, catering to various application needs:
1. PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene)
- Long-term operating temperature ranges from -60℃ to 260℃, with the best high-temperature resistance among fluoroplastics, excellent insulation performance and extremely low dielectric loss.
- Resistant to corrosion by all kinds of chemical media such as strong acids, strong alkalis and strong oxidants; it has an extremely low friction coefficient and non-stick properties.
- Disadvantages: High hardness, difficult processing, and average radiation resistance.
2. FEP (Fluorinated Ethylene Propylene Copolymer)
- Long-term operating temperature ranges from -80℃ to 200℃, enabling melt extrusion processing with better processability than PTFE.
- Electrical performance is close to that of PTFE, with good chemical corrosion resistance, flame retardancy and superior flexibility.
- Disadvantages: Lower maximum temperature resistance than PTFE, and average wear resistance.
3. PFA (Perfluoroalkoxy Resin)
- Long-term operating temperature ranges from -60℃ to 260℃, combining the high-temperature and corrosion resistance of PTFE with the melt processability of FEP.
- Better crack resistance and radiation resistance than PTFE, with high transparency, suitable for manufacturing thin-wall insulated cables.
- Disadvantages: High cost, one of the most expensive fluoroplastics.
4. ETFE (Ethylene-Tetrafluoroethylene Copolymer)
- Long-term operating temperature ranges from -60℃ to 150℃, featuring high mechanical strength, outstanding impact resistance and wear resistance.
- Chemical corrosion resistant, flame-retardant and self-extinguishing, with good insulation performance, often used for sheaths or insulation layers requiring high strength.
- Disadvantages: Lower temperature resistance than the other three materials mentioned above.

It can work stably in a wide temperature range of -80℃ to 260℃, and withstand higher temperature impact for a short time, far exceeding conventional cable materials such as PVC and XLPE. 2. Superior Chemical Corrosion Resistance
Resistant to almost all chemical media including strong acids, strong alkalis, strong oxidants and organic solvents. 3. Outstanding Electrical Performance

Key Selection Notes
1. Select Material Based on Temperature : FEP is suitable for scenarios below 200℃; PTFE or PFA is required for scenarios above 200℃. FEP (resistant to low temperature down to -80℃) is preferred for low-temperature applications.
2. Select Structure Based on Process : For flexible wiring or frequent bending scenarios, choose multi-strand stranded conductors with FEP/PFA insulation structure; PTFE insulated cables can be used for fixed laying.
3. Select Sheath Based on Environment : Fluoroplastic sheaths are required for strong corrosion and high wear environments; fluoroplastic insulation + polyolefin sheaths can be used in ordinary environments to reduce costs.
4.Pay Attention to Certification Compliance : Export products need to meet international standards such as UL 758 and IEC 60811; products for the aerospace field must comply with the military standard MIL-W-22759.
