Nylon-sheathed wires and cables refer to the cable category using nylon (PA, Polyamide) as the sheath material. Its core structure is extruding a nylon sheath outside the conductor insulation layer. By virtue of nylon's excellent wear resistance, tear resistance and oil resistance, it enhances the mechanical protection capability of the cables, and is widely used in scenarios such as mobile laying, frequent bending and oily environments.

 

Core Characteristics of Nylon Sheath
1. Superior Wear Resistance and Tear Resistance

Nylon has far better wear resistance than PVC and PE sheaths, with a low friction coefficient. It is resistant to repeated bending and dragging, which can effectively protect the internal insulation layer and conductor, and extend the service life of the cable. It is especially suitable for wiring of equipment requiring frequent movement such as machine tools, robots and hoisting equipment.

2. Excellent Oil Resistance and Chemical Resistance
It has good resistance to various oils including mineral oil, animal and vegetable oil, and lubricating oil. Meanwhile, it can resist the erosion of chemical media such as weak acids, weak alkalis and alcohols, and is applicable to oily or mildly corrosive environments such as automobile manufacturing, engineering machinery and oilfield equipment.

3. Good Mechanical Strength and Impact Resistance
The nylon sheath features high toughness, excellent tensile, extrusion and impact resistance. It can still maintain good flexibility at low temperatures (minimum up to -40℃), and is not easy to embrittle, making it suitable for complex working conditions such as outdoor and low-temperature environments.

4. Lightweight and Easy Processability
Nylon has a density of approximately 1.13-1.15g/cm³, which is lighter than PVC sheaths, reducing cable laying difficulty and equipment load. Its processing technology is mature, and it can be combined with various insulation materials such as PVC, XLPE and fluoroplastics.

5. Limitations Description
Nylon has strong water absorption, and its insulation performance will decrease slightly after water absorption. For long-term use in humid environments, it is necessary to match a moisture-proof insulation layer or additional protective measures. Its high-temperature resistance is general, with a long-term operating temperature usually of -40℃~105℃, making it unsuitable for high-temperature scenarios.

 

Common Structures and Models
The typical structure of nylon-sheathed wires and cables is conductor → insulation layer → nylon sheath. The insulation layer can be made of PVC, XLPE and other materials according to requirements. The common models and uses are as follows:

1. Nylon-Sheathed Wires (Single-Core)

  • Models: BVN, RVN
  • Structure: Copper conductor + PVC insulation + nylon sheath
  • Uses: Internal connection wires of machine tools, internal wiring of household appliances, low-voltage lines of automobiles

2. Nylon-Sheathed Control Cables (Multi-Core)

  • Models: KVVN, KVVNP
  • Structure: Multi-strand copper conductor + PVC insulation + core stranding + nylon sheath (with shielding layer in some types)
  • Uses: Industrial automation control systems, signal transmission of machine tool control cabinets, control lines of engineering machinery

3. Oil-Resistant Nylon-Sheathed Cables

  • Models: YVNY
  • Structure: Copper conductor + XLPE insulation + nylon sheath
  • Uses: Engine compartment lines of automobiles, cables of oilfield pumping units, oil-resistant cables of mining machinery

 

Key Selection Notes

  • Select by Operating Temperature: Choose nylon sheaths with a temperature resistance of 105℃ for conventional scenarios; select modified cold-resistant nylon (PA12 material) for low-temperature environments below -40℃.
  • Select by Environmental Humidity: For humid environments, prioritize the three-layer structure of "insulation layer + moisture-proof layer + nylon sheath", or choose cables with sheath moisture-proof treatment.
  • Select by Movement Frequency: For high-frequency bending scenarios (such as robot joints), choose the structure of multi-strand stranded flexible conductors + nylon sheath to improve fatigue resistance.
